Biography David Egan was born in 1965, Dublin, Ireland and has lived and worked in Sydney, Australia since 1988. The 2005 opening of his custom built gallery in Paddington, Sydney follows 17 years of activity and success as an artist. The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority appointed David as their Artist in Residence for Sydney's historic precinct and ambassador for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, with the completion of public works and murals throughout the city. In 2002 he was the NSW official artist for The Year of the Outback, producing artwork and designs to commemorate the occasion. The fluidity, boldness and energy of Egan's work has given rise to a great number of high profile commissions, collaborations and exhibitions. In 2001 Irish rock band U2 sanctioned the use of their lyrics in his work, with acclaimed exhibitions in Sydney and Dublin. In the following year Universal Music commissioned a painting for Sir Elton John to commemorate his Australasian tour. Selected corporate commissions and projects include Apple, Qantas, Amnesty International, Greenpeace and WWF. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney chose Egan to design the official T-Shirt for the Andy Warhol blockbuster summer exhibition. Collectors throughout the world have acquired David Egan's work, reflecting his ability to communicate to a global audience. Today David Egan continues exploring the unlimited possibilities of the imagination and the physical use of paint. The viewer is rewarded with something arresting and new and at the same time the work feels as though it has always existed in the world.
